Pondering cook books

I was perusing one of the dozens of cookbooks we have in the house and noticing how recipes change over time.  Assumptions about the cooks reflect so much about the culture of the time.  One of the cook books makes liberal use of MSG.  Some of the mid-20th century books are very excited about convenience foods.  Some of our more recently printed books get very eclectic and call for ingredients from all over the world, in one recipe.

One thing though, very few seem to be oriented to regional and seasonal foods.  I take that back, a little.  We have some Italian and Mexican collections that do tend to be regional.  Since I haven’t lived in those regions, I can’t say for sure that winter vegetables and summer vegetables co-exist seasonally.   What I’d like to explore though, is where to find local and seasonal cookbooks.

I’m getting faster

This is the fourth time I’ve built this website in the last few days.  I think it’s improving a little each time, and I’m positive I’m getting faster at rebuilding.

Let me know what you think of navigation on the site – easy? tough? confusing?  I’ll be adding a few things soon – more details about the foods we carry here, descriptions of some of the cool events we host, and a FAQ.
